Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine

Course Code: HLT61007

What is Nutritional Medicine?

Nutritional Medicine integrates a contemporary, research based understanding of diet and nutrition with traditional and naturopathic knowledge and principles. This integrated, natural approach to diet and nutrition incorporates an understanding of the role of macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and trace elements) in the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health and well being. It also provides an appreciation of the role of diet and foods in health, and the therapeutic uses of specific foods in the management of health and illness.

A major difference between this course and other nutrition or dietetics courses is that it provides the graduate with knowledge and skills to effectively treat and manage a wide range of diseases and health conditions through the therapeutic application of foods, diets and nutritional supplementation.

What will you learn?

You will study the health sciences (anatomy, chemistry, physiology and pathology), practice management, communication and basic counselling skills, as well as basic and advanced nutritional medicine studies that include dietary analysis, food therapeutics (food as medicine), dietary planning and nutritional therapeutics (supplement prescribing).
