Diploma of TCM Remedial Massage (An Mo Tui Na)
Course Code HLT50107
What is An Mo Tui Na?
Essentially An Mo Tui Na is traditional Chinese massage. Chinese massage therapy forms an important part of the traditional Chinese system of medicine and was developed as a form of remedial therapy over 2000 years ago. Based on traditional Chinese philosophies and principles, An Mo Tui Na incorporates numerous soft tissue manipulative techniques, including acupressure, which aim at restoring and promoting the flow of vital force (Qi) throughout the body.
What will you learn?
The course incorporates both an Eastern and Western understanding of health and illness. Students learn the traditional Chinese view of the world, including well being and disease, and apply that philosophy to their study of massage therapy. Chinese massage techniques form the basis of treatment of a wide range of health conditions. These include musculoskeletal conditions, but also gynaecological, obstetric, paediatric and even mental and emotional health problems.
Western health sciences (anatomy, physiology, pathology) are presented in the course, as well as foundations of communication for the health practitioner and practice management.
Clinical practice
In the latter part of their course students undertake supervised clinical studies in the college clinic. This provides them with an excellent opportunity to implement the skills and knowledge learnt throughout their training in the treatment and management of clients and case history prior to graduation and commencement of practice.
First aid
Students must obtain a current Senior First Aid Certificate prior to graduation.
Time to complete
A full-time student can complete the diploma in 8 months. Part-time students will take significantly longer to complete the award.
