First Aid

The Senior First Aid Certificate is a requirement of all certificates and diplomas at SAHEC. You will learn first aid techniques and resuscitation.

 

Herbal Studies 5

In this module the herbal therapeutic management of various health conditions continues. Students apply their knowledge of herbal medicine and the health sciences to the development therapeutic strategies to manage a range of health conditions and, through the study of case examples, learn how to individualise their treatment plans.

 

Herbal Studies 6

Herbal Studies 6 furthers students’ knowledge of the herbal treatment of various health conditions and extends their ability to develop herbal treatment plans to address individualised cases. Legal and ethical considerations for herbal medicine practice are also introduced and discussed.

 

Homeopathy 1

Homeopathy 1 introduces students to the fascinating field of homeopathy. The history and development of homeopathic medicine, its basic philosophy and principles, the concept of miasms, homeopathic preparations and dosage, repertorisation and homeopathic first aid are covered. Students gain an appreciation of the distinctions between homeopathy and naturopathy, and the integration of homeopathy in a naturopathic practice.

 

Homeopathy 2

After learning basic principles of homeopathy in Homeopathy1, students will gain a deeper understanding of homeopathic philosophy and commence their homeopathic materia medica studies, looking at the physical and psychological aspects of the 50 most important medicines. Students learn how to prescribe these remedies for acute health conditions.

 

Naturopathic Clinical Studies 3

Naturopathic Clinical Studies 3 advances students’ skills in applying their knowledge from all aspects of their study to clinical case studies. Working within a framework of naturopathic philosophy and principles, students are encouraged to think holistically in their health assessment, treatment planning and management of clients.

 

Naturopathic Clinical Studies 4

In Naturopathic Clinical Studies 4, under supervision of teacher/practitioners, students apply their knowledge and skills from all modules studied so far, to the treatment and management of clients. Clinical Studies provides students with the opportunity to develop confidence and competence in client and clinic management. Students are required to demonstrate their ability to effectively manage all aspects of clinical practice throughout the duration of this module.

 

Naturopathic Clinical Studies 5 & 6

Naturopathic Clinical Studies 5 and 6 are the final modules of clinical studies for naturopathy students. Throughout these modules students are required to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge and skills from all modules studied, to the treatment and management of clients. Clinical Studies provides students with the opportunity to develop confidence and competence in client and clinic management prior to graduation and commencement of clinical practice. Students are assessed against the units of competency and performance criteria documented in the National Health Training Package for Naturopathy.

 

Nutritional Medicine 5

This module follows on from Nutritional Medicine 4 by continuing to investigate health conditions associated with the different body systems, how they are influenced by nutrition, and how optimum nutrition may influence them.

 

Nutritional Medicine 6

Nutritional Medicine 6 completes the study of nutritional therapeutics by addressing the remaining body systems and health conditions associated with them. Discussion of nutrition’s role in preventing and managing these conditions is emphasised. Students continue to develop their skills in developing therapeutic strategies for the nutritional management of individual cases.

 

Pharmacology

Through this module students gain knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs and their effects on the body. Potential drug-herb and drug-nutrient interactions are presented and critically discussed.

 

Practice Management for Naturopathy

In Practice Management for Naturopaths students develop knowledge and skills required to establish and conduct a natural medicine clinical practice. Appropriate business strategies, including planning, marketing, financial, ethical, legal and regulatory issues are presented and discussed. Students research and develop a personal business plan relevant to the establishment of a clinical practice as a business.
